Reviews: District 9, Nein, Nine!

Merry Christmas everybody! And welcome to another edition of The Doctor's Prognosis!

Since I just got District 9 on BD (with God of War III demo), I thought it would be cool to do some movie reviews.

So what do District 9, Nine, Inglourious Basterds, and 9 have in common? Not much really but they do have the word "nine" in there somewhere. Weak I know. :-P

Anyway, on to some short reviews!

9

This is an animated short that got turned into a feature film. And it was only decent. The problem is the story is pretty predictable. You can't shake the feeling that you have seen this before. Nonetheless, some of the imagery is pretty good. And I get the feeling that this will be a good film for kids in their early teens. Something visually appealing but with a little more maturity than the Saturday morning cartoons. That makes this movie only decent, and not great. I just can't fully recommend it with better movies around.

"Hi I'm the protagonist. You sound female so you must be my love interest! Now let's go find the kind sidekick and the old bigot who's scared of change!"

9 is worth a rental if you're curious but that's about it. Mild thumbs down.

Inglourious Basterds

Now this was a great film. It isn't as balls-to-walls violent as you may think. But it is a fun film that builds its tension up before a final release. And everything building up to that climax is great too. There is a lot of humor here and some great characters. Brad Pitt is hilarious as Lt. Raine, and Christoph Waltz is great as the villain you love to hate.

Did you like 9? "Nein nein nein nein nein!"

If you don't like Tarantino films, well I'm not so sure this will change your mind. But this was a thoroughly enjoyable film for me. Big thumbs up for this one.

District 9

I really liked this film too. The protagonist starts out as someone who is kind of a joke and develops into something of a hero. There is also some cool sci-fi eye candy including some crazy violence. But this movie does have a very human element to it which makes it endearing.

Now who's buying me one of these? You never have to worry about parking!

I don't think everyone will like it, but I enjoyed it and thought it was one of the best films of the year. It's now available on video so go pick it up (remember it comes with a God of War III demo) or at least rent it. Another big thumbs up.

I really hope you enjoyed my short reviews! I also hope you all have a great holiday weekend! Merry Christmas to everyone. Here is a little something to say thanks for supporting my blog.

See you next time! :-)
